DEI Forum

Overview

Organizing the DE&I (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) forum at Dover Air Force Base was a deeply rewarding experience, reflecting my commitment to fostering a respectful and inclusive workplace.

Recognizing the Need for Dialogue

Amid growing conversations about diversity and inclusion, I identified the need for a platform where personnel could engage in open and respectful dialogue on divisive topics. The goal was to promote mutual understanding and create a better working environment across our diverse work centers.

Planning and Execution

Building the Team: I assembled a dedicated team to help plan and execute the forum. This involved weekly meetings to ensure every detail was meticulously planned and every perspective was considered.

Setting the Agenda: We designed a comprehensive agenda that included various topics related to DE&I, ensuring that the discussions were relevant and meaningful.

Creating a Safe Space: It was essential to establish an environment where participants felt safe to express their views. We set up guidelines to facilitate respectful dialogue, ensuring that all voices were heard and valued.

The Forum

The forum brought together a total 400 participants from around the base. As the mediator, I led the weekly sessions, guiding discussions on sensitive topics and ensuring constructive conversations.

The atmosphere was one of mutual respect and openness, fostering a deeper understanding among attendees.

Impact and Outcome

The DE&I forum was a significant step towards building a more inclusive and respectful workplace. It helped break down barriers, promote empathy, and improve working relationships across the base. The positive feedback from participants underscored the importance of such initiatives in fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.

By organizing and mediating this forum, I was able to contribute to a culture of inclusivity and respect, reinforcing the values of diversity and equity within our community.
