Overview
Organizing the Social Impact Pitch Competition was a fulfilling experience that allowed me to bring together academia, social enterprises, and the community to foster innovation with a positive societal impact.
Connecting Institutions
Recognizing the potential for collaboration, I reached out to Brown University and the Social Enterprise Greenhouse (SEG) in Providence, RI.
Both institutions shared a commitment to social impact, and together, we envisioned a platform where budding entrepreneurs could showcase their ideas aimed at creating positive change.
Event Planning and Execution
Securing the Venue: I took the initiative to find and secure a suitable venue that could accommodate our needs. This was crucial in setting the stage for a successful event.
Gathering Participants: I managed to bring together an audience of 40 people, including students, faculty, and local community members. This diverse group provided a supportive and enthusiastic environment for the competitors.
The Competition: We selected five founders with promising social impact ideas to compete. Each had the opportunity to present their innovative solutions to pressing social issues. The competition was intense, with each founder demonstrating passion and commitment to their cause.
Securing Support and Rewards
Cash Prizes: To motivate and reward the participants, I secured cash prizes. These funds provided the winners with essential resources to advance their projects.
Startup Accelerator Placement: Beyond financial rewards, I arranged for the winners to gain placement in a startup accelerator program. This opportunity offered them mentorship, networking, and further support to develop their ventures.
The Outcome
The Social Impact Pitch Competition was more than just an event; it was a catalyst for change. It highlighted the power of collaboration between educational institutions and social enterprises, and it underscored the importance of supporting initiatives that strive to make a positive difference in the world.
By organizing this competition, I not only facilitated a platform for innovative ideas but also contributed to a culture of social responsibility and entrepreneurial spirit. This experience reaffirmed my belief in the power of collective efforts to drive meaningful change.
